About The Project
Located in the heart of Southport, this elevated 50s weatherboard home was in need for some modern influence and a redesign. The clients come to us to gain more space for their growing family while also providing better access to their backyard for an amazing entertaining space. There was a golden opportunity to infill the lower portion of the house, however, this also brought many challenges as we have to raise the house to meet height and code requirements. After setting out the parameters of the site and construction, while also understanding the client’s needs and architectural style, we produced a cost-effective, logical and practical extension to this family home. While keeping the heritage look of the home, we were able blend in their selected modern costal style in with the existing architecture.
Through this extension and renovation, we gained a large master suite, a sizeable living space and an entertainer’s kitchen with walk in pantry sprawling out onto a large deck overlooking their backyard. Additionally, Hinterland Drafting was also able to assist the clients in renovating the existing upper floor to gain an extra bedroom while also effectively providing a new internal access to the upper floor. A space-saving and practical addition to the design was a build to boundary carport which compliments the overall facade design to bring a more modern influence.
This 50s home has been propelled into the 21st century with modern makeover and a cost-effective and practical renovation. It was an absolute pleasure to design and work with these clients and can’t wait to see it completed with construction due to begin early 2024.
